MRI is a type of diagnostic test that can create detailed images of nearly every structure and organ inside the body. It uses magnets and radio waves to produce layers of digital images. MRI does not use ionizing radiation. Images produced by an MRI scan can show organs, bones, muscles and blood vessels. I unwillingly learned all about it due to an acute and sudden collapse of my visual sense and ability to balance. It was causes by a tropical virus which made it all the way into my brain. Unbelievably, I caught it while at home in Berlin. The aftereffects included double or quadruple vision and dizziness, lasting eight months in total.
